Video game developer studio, CD Projekt RED, decided to discontinue their efforts in combating piracy game through legal channels, The Witcher 2. Polish developer has finally chosen the way of an appeal to all users to choose a legal product than pay.
CD Projekt RED are known by their role-playing game, The Witcher. They were previously getting rave reviews from gamers with the statement will not charge a price for each content downloads from the latest series of their game, The Witcher 2.
However, in December 2011, CD Projekt RED waging war against piracy. How to hire a law firm to represent them look for people who allegedly have received a copy of the game The Witcher 2 by illegal means, after that send electronic mail.
What makes it so controversial because the firm is threatening fines to any user of illegal The Witcher 2 games of 750 euros, or about USD 8 million. If the fines were not ignored, the firm will report to court users and threatened to pay the fine with a larger amount.
For some people, the mode is prone to be abused and more like extortion. It could be, that threat does not happen to people who actually use the The Witcher 2 game could be diverted to be illegal or criminal in itself. To that end, several gaming sites already submitted an application to CD Projekt RED to stop the way.
Not unexpectedly, CD Projekt RED through one of its founders, Marcin Iwinski, making open letter to the community of The Witcher 2 gamers who are ready to stop it states that the legal effort.
In his letter, Iwinski admitted that it was indeed potentially harm innocent people. The reason, one of their decision to use the way it is because of distrust on the mechanism of the Digital Rights Management, copyright protection mechanisms that are less popular among gamers.
With this termination, whether construed CD Projekt RED succumb to piracy? Or even close their eyes hijacked product?
Iwinski blatantly dismissed these assumptions. CD Projekt RED confirmed that it does not support piracy because it harms them and the video game industry as a whole. Although they reject the so-called DRM mechanism would suppress piracy, copy video games illegally is wrong.
Instead, CD Projekt RED took the persuasive approach by asking the gamers who buy games legally to help them. How, tell their friends who was caught using pirated goods that are actually lethal action of the game developers are being played. If the developer does not support the studio, it was impossible they could ever produce a quality The Witcher 2 game titles to be played.
